What a Landmark Personal Injury Settlement Tells Us: Insights from a Thompsons’ Partner

A Landmark Settlement: £5,000,000 Secured for Traumatic Brain Injury Claim

We are proud to share the successful resolution of a complex and deeply challenging case involving catastrophic injuries. Following a lengthy legal process, the claim has settled for £5 million, ensuring the individual receives the care and support needed for the rest of their life.

Background of the Case

The client was struck by a vehicle while crossing a road in Glasgow. Despite being clearly visible and having right of way at a well-lit junction, the driver, who was later convicted of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, was travelling at an excessive speed in a 30mph zone. This tragic incident changed the client’s life forever.

Life-Altering Injuries

The injuries sustained were severe and included:

  • Traumatic brain injury with a large subdural haematoma

  • Bilateral tibial fractures and subsequent double leg amputations

  • Fractured pelvis, humerus, and ribs

  • Visual and cognitive impairments

  • A devastating pregnancy loss

Recovery involved numerous surgeries, including craniotomy, titanium cranioplasty, and VP shunt procedures.

The Legal Journey

Acting under a Guardianship Order, the claim was pursued against the insurer of the negligent driver. The case highlighted:

  • The driver’s failure to maintain a safe speed and proper lookout

  • The lifelong impact on independence, employment prospects, and family life

  • The extensive future care, housing adaptations, and specialist equipment required

Why This Settlement Matters

The £5 million settlement reflects not only the gravity of the injuries but also the commitment to securing dignity and quality of life. It covers:

  • Past and future solatium

  • Past and future care costs

  • Loss of earnings and pension rights

  • Housing adaptations and specialist equipment

  • Ongoing case management and support services

Our Commitment

This outcome demonstrates the importance of expert legal representation in catastrophic injury cases. We fought tirelessly to ensure our client’s needs were fully recognised and funded, providing security for the future.
